State Exposes Laguna Beach Tax Delinquents

The Franchise Tax Board says two Laguna Beach residents owe a combined $600,000 in state income tax.

Just in time for tax day, the state has issued a list of the 500 people who owe the most in state income tax.

Both Helene Lederman and Gerald L. Carroll of Laguna Beach made the list. Lederman owes the state $318,504.98 and Carroll owes $279,692.59, according to the Franchise Tax Board.

A lien was filed on Lederman on Dec. 18, 2009. A lien was filed on Carroll on Dec. 23, 2011.

Last year the legislature gave the FTB more power and required them to publish more tax delinquents twice a year. The boards new powers include the ability to request that other states help collect California's income tax debts.

The board can now release the professions and professional license numbers of tax delinquents, too.
