Watch: Beach Bonfire Ban Brings Out Angry Weenie Wielders

Orange County politicians and others head to the shore to protest a proposal to outlaw seaside fire pits throughout Southern California.

A possible ban on beach fire pits being debated by the South Coast Air Quality Management District brought out a hungry crowd of about 100 to Huntington State Beach on Sunday afternoon for a combined cookout and protest.

Several Orange County politicians attended the weenie roast and s'more-in, a rare showing of agreement among Republicans (like Rep. Dana Rohrabacher) and Democrats (like Huntington Beach Mayor Connie Boardman).

All this bonfire ban talk stems from . This prompted the Newport Beach City Council to support a pit ban. However, the city councils of San Clemente and Huntington Beach want to keep their fire pits, and would prefer the AQMD leave them alone.

The AQMD has scheduled a public hearing and a vote on the issue for June 7 at their headquarters in Diamond Bar. If approved, the measure would affect beaches throughout Orange County.
