National League of American Pen Women Exhibit at Wells Fargo!

Not an ordinary art exhibit. This one's from "her."

Next time you're in downtown Laguna Beach, stop by the on Ocean and check out this exhibit by the National League of American Pen Women! This isn't an ordinary exhibit. I got to talking with one of the artists represented in the show at the opening last week. Her name is Galena Segal.

She is a survivor of the Holocaust, and ceates weavings that represent the wisdom she learned from her life. She showed me a photo of one of her paintings. It was a flower with petals that illustrated what different natural disasters occur on the planet. She titled it "Nature's Gift to Mankind." Currently Galena has taken to woodworking. Her latest project was a piano!

One art piece is a collage of bills and prescriptions. On top of it are the words, "I'm not a survivor, I AM A WARRIOR, I fight every day for life."

My work is in the show, too. Several years ago, I struggled to overcome my own shortcomings. There were things in life I felt incapable of doing, but with the help of six other women in my life, I worked it out and am on a new road now. I created a series of paintings I titled my "She Series" for the purpose of honoring the feminine spirit. My daughter Katie is my model. Suellen Zima is responsible for introducing me to the Pen Women. She's the President of the Laguna Beach Branch, and she does a great job!

CAP (Community Art Project) is responsible for supporting artists in town. CAP put on this show. Some of these artists would not be seen but for this project. Faye Baglin, who is on the board of CAP, helped host the event with wonderful food! Thank you CAP for what you do! Pat Sparkuhl, a well-known and well-loved local artist, curated this show.
