Submitted by the Laguna Beach Unified School District:
Parenting children with challenging behaviors can be difficult. LBUSD is presenting a seven-week program designed to assist parents with young children age five to ten.
Beginning Thursday, October 10 through December 5 from 6:30 p.m.– 9:30 p.m., the program runs seven consecutive Thursday evenings, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, November 28. The classes will be held at the Susi Q Senior Center located at 380 Third Street in Laguna Beach, and will be facilitated by marriage and family therapist Laura Rivas.
LBUSD Special Education/Student Services Director Irene White remarks, “Our seven-week Loving Solutions class will provide parents an opportunity for interaction among parents, practice of concepts and techniques learned as well as individualized problem solving. Developing our skills is something all of us can benefit from as parents.”
Space is limited and pre-registration is necessary. For more information or to register, please contact either Dr. Jami Parsons, LBUSD Elementary Counselor, by telephone at (949) 497-7780 (El Morro Elementary School) or (949) 497-7790 (Top of the World Elementary School) or by email at email@example.com; or Ms. Rivas at (949) 791-7839 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
New this year are parent education opportunities for parents of children of all ages who need additional support but cannot commit to an ongoing parent class. Beginning November 19 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., the ninety minute “drop-in” classes are designed as an opportunity for interaction with other parents as well as problem solving techniques for current parent/child challenges. The classes will be facilitated by Ms. Rivas and also held at the Susi Q Senior Center. In addition to the November 19 date, classes will be held on December 27, January 21, February 18, March 18, May 20 and June 17.
Additional parent education opportunities including classes targeting secondary students will be forthcoming and posted on the District web site at http://www.lbusd.org/.
