Submitted by the Laguna Beach Unified School District:
On Wednesday, February 13, the Laguna Beach Unified School District, in conjunction with the California Youth Services (CYS), is presenting a parent education event entitled: How to Help Students “Thrive” and “Survive” in the Laguna Beach Bubble. The presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m. in the Laguna Beach High School Library.
LBHS Assistant Principal Robert Billinger encourages Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School parents to attend with their children.
“We are fortunate to have such a diverse panel of presenters at our upcoming Parent Awareness Presentation on February 13 in the LBHS Library. We have Lynn Posey, Community Development Specialist, who will share strategies and techniques as outlined in ‘The 40 Developmental Assets’, that parents can use when working with their adolescent. We will also hear from Ms. Nichole Rosa, LBHS Counselor, on how these assets can be used at both school and in life as our youth transition from middle school to high school and beyond. Finally, we will hear from two of our students as they share their perspective on the challenges, both known and unknown, that exist in Laguna Beach and how they overcame them. We invite all parents and students to attend this informative presentation. Attendance with your son/daughter will give you the opportunity to have meaningful dialogue about the presentation that evening and in the future.”
Ms. Posey adds, “Are your children surviving or thriving? Learn simple everyday ways to help all parents give their children a foundation they need to fulfill their potential, to learn and grow even through tough times, to succeed, to thrive.”
Presentation topics include:
- An overview of The 40 Developmental Assets including 40 simple building blocks proven to help youth thrive and succeed in school and beyond
- How to balance school and social stress
- How to develop coping skills and resiliency
- How to successfully transition through the “Laguna Beach Bubble” and beyond.
Parents interested in attending, please RSVP to Mr. Billinger at email@example.com by Monday, February 11.
