Laguna Beach Connections to a New Movie On Famed Punk Club CBGB

Laguna Beach High grad Luke Dressler and former resident (and current Foo Fighters drummer) Taylor Hawkins will be in a film about the famed New York City punk club.

Laguna Beach is about to get friendly with famed New York City punk club CBGB.

A new movie began shooting this week about the club's heyday in the 1970s, and two of its actors have Laguna roots: Luke Dressler, who graduated last year from , has been cast as Richard Lloyd, guitarist of the band Television, one of the first bands to play the club that would eventually become a home for Blondie, Talking Heads, the Ramones and Patti Smith.

The other Laguna connection is a bit more well-known: former resident Taylor Hawkins, who drums for the Foo Fighters. He'll be portraying iconic rabble-rouser Iggy Pop.

Dressler, 19, is currently a performing arts student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where the film is being shot. He was a member of the Laguna Beach High Park Avenue Players, where he was featured in everything from Shakespeare to musical comedy to dramas.

Also in the cast: Harry Potter alums Alan Rickman (who has the lead role as CBGB founder Hilly Kristal) and Rupert Grint, Ashley Greene ("Twilight") and Johnny Galecki ("The Big Bang Theory").
