Laguna Beach is about to get friendly with famed New York City punk club CBGB.
A new movie began shooting this week about the club's heyday in the 1970s, and two of its actors have Laguna roots: Luke Dressler, who graduated last year from , has been cast as Richard Lloyd, guitarist of the band Television, one of the first bands to play the club that would eventually become a home for Blondie, Talking Heads, the Ramones and Patti Smith.
The other Laguna connection is a bit more well-known: former resident Taylor Hawkins, who drums for the Foo Fighters. He'll be portraying iconic rabble-rouser Iggy Pop.
Dressler, 19, is currently a performing arts student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where the film is being shot. He was a member of the Laguna Beach High Park Avenue Players, where he was featured in everything from Shakespeare to musical comedy to dramas.
Also in the cast: Harry Potter alums Alan Rickman (who has the lead role as CBGB founder Hilly Kristal) and Rupert Grint, Ashley Greene ("Twilight") and Johnny Galecki ("The Big Bang Theory").
The film CBGB, which SPIN magazine says is using actual items from the club for set decor, including its disgusting sticker-clad and never-washed toilets, is scheduled for release in 2013.
