Laguna Beach High Alum Taylor Hawkins to Induct Rush Into Rock Hall

Hawkins was a mega Rush fan at LBHS, according to a fellow student. The ceremony is set for April 18.

Laguna Beach residents have kept a particularly close watch on the career of Taylor Hawkins ever since he broke big as the drummer in the rock band Foo Fighters.

There's good reason, of course: Hawkins is an alum of Laguna Beach High School—class of 1990, to be specific. The local-boy-made-good has pounded the skins to stadium-sized crowds the world over. And in a few months, he'll realize what had to have been something of a crazy youthful dream by inducting (along side Foo band mate Dave Grohl) his favorite band Rush into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in an April 18 ceremony.

"He was a total Rush geek," recalls classmate Victor Infante. "I remember talking to him in class about music when we should have been paying attention. He was terrribly into prog-rock at that time, and always loved recommending bands. And I always loved having bands recommended to me, so it worked out great."

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, and this year it's open to the public. Tickets go on sale Feb. 1.
