Laguna Beach Seniors Awards Scholarship to Dylan Bush

Submitted by Laguna Beach Seniors:

Laguna Beach Seniors [LBS} is pleased to announce the first annual college scholarship award granted to Laguna Beach High School (LBHS) graduate Dylan Bush. Made possible by revenues from “Table Top Treasures”, the LBSI Senior Council Scholarship grant totaled $1,000 and was awarded to Dylan at the LBHS Donor Reception and Honors Convocation.

“Table Top Treasures” is the brainchild of former LBS president Skipper Lynn and has turned out to be a real treasure indeed. By gathering donated items and putting them on sale each Monday morning, a growing group of collectibles fans are flocking to find their own treasures. So much so, that Skipper brought up the idea to the LBSI Senior Council to use some of the money to help a deserving Laguna Beach High School graduate further their education.

Dylan Bush was the perfect recipient: he is generous with his service to his community and demonstrates outstanding character and social consciousness, particularly as an advocate for seniors. Dylan led a group at LBHS named Allied Youth for Senior Health (AYSH) and launched an intergenerational walking group for seniors and teens to enjoy together. “He is a young man who renews your faith in young people - he’s clearly gifted, and has an important sense of social responsibility for his age,” says Scot Eastman who served on the selection committee.

Dylan will attend UC Berkley in the fall and plans to major in History for the Pre-Health track in preparation to become a transplant surgeon. He has received several scholarships for his academic talents and feels honored to be the first recipient of this award. “This scholarship meant the most to me emotionally because it was inspired by my grandmother who has recently had problems with her memory.”

Nadia Babayi, LBSI Executive Director is excited about the award, “We’re thrilled to provide this scholarship to Dylan and proud to support such a promising young man. Thank you to Skipper Lynn, Scot Eastman, and the Senior Council for launching this program. We look forward to encouraging more young people to reach out to the seniors in their community.”
