Seniors Prep for Real World Interviews

Senior Mock Interviews were held at Laguna Beach High School to help students practice interviewing for jobs and colleges.

Laguna Beach High School seniors are more prepared for a real-life interview, thanks to a day of mock interviews aimed at teaching them how to present their qualifications and accomplishments.

Held at the high school's library, the Senior Mock Interviews were designed to help the seniors get ready to transition from high school to college and future careers, through allowing them to choose to interview for a college or a job, school district officials reported.

"This activity is a great opportunity for our senior students to present themselves and all the accomplishments and experiences that they have gained up to this point in life," Corey Brown, the school's transition services coordinator, said.

The seniors prepared for the interviews by developing a resume in their English class and were taught effective interviewing strategies. District staff and community volunteers served as interviewers for the approximately seven minute student interviews. The seniors were also given a feedback form to help them improve their interview skills going forward.

"I personally believe that it is important that our students think about how they are perceived through the eyes of someone who does not know them," Irene White, the district's special education and student services director, said.

District officials said the interviews were the perfect activity to give the seniors a glimpse into adult life after high school.
