LBHS Tennis: Breakers Post Two More 18-0 Victories in League Play

With only three more league match-ups left to play, the Breakers look to defend their league championship title. The Breakers posted two more 18-0 victories last week against Estancia and Calvary Chapel. Coach Don Davis continues to mix up his line up giving every varsity member a chance to show their dominance.

On Tuesday, the Breakers took the road for a tough match up against Capistrano Valley. The Breakers lost a close one that once again came down to the last round. Doubles played extremely tough, winning six of their nine matches. The no. 1 doubles team, Brooke Michaels and Kira Hamilton, swept (6-1, 6-0, 6-3). The no. 3 team, Chloe Mansour and Katelyn Bo, took two of their three matches (6-0, 7-6, 0-6), and the no. 2 doubles team Sarah Nederlander and Bailey Jaeger won one (6-1, 5-7, 2-6).

In singles, the Breakers had a tougher time, wining only two of the nine matchups. Seniors Claire Jaeger and Lauren Michaels each won one set each. Against the Capistrano no. 2 team, Lauren lost in a tie breaker. Despite serving to close the set at 5-3, Capo no. 2 failed to give in to force a tie breaker at 6-6. The match ended up going to Capo Valley, 7-6.

As the final round began, darkness set upon the courts of Capistrano Valley. Once again, the last round found both Claire and Lauren remaining on court and the decision for the match undetermined. The veterans fought with every ounce of fight in them, but were not able to turn the matches their direction that night.

This week’s matches continue at home tomorrow (Thursday) against Godinez.
