School Board Candidate Statement: Jan Vickers

JAN VICKERS

My professional background includes teacher, school administrator, artist and foster parent. I have California Teaching Credentials in Secondary, Elementary and Early Childhood Specialist. I have been  serving  as  a Laguna Beach School Board Trustee including three terms as president  I have lived in Laguna Beach for over 40 years. Our sons attended Laguna Beach schools from Kindergarten-12th.

Elected as Trustee of Laguna Beach Unified School District, you entrusted me with the responsibility of policy setting, financial accountability and curriculum oversight. The districts $41 million budget  is prudently allocated, reported monthly and includes healthy reserves. Yearly audits verify transparency and accountability. Students and staff commit to continuous improvement receiving state recognition as Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon accolades.

I have been active in many areas: PTA, site councils, curriculum committees, classroom volunteer and goal setting. I have substitute taught in all Laguna schools. My community service includes: Methodist church (meals-on-wheels), scouts, AYSO, Laguna Beach Arts Commission and surplus food recovery.

I prepare and attend meetings, asking questions and giving input. I am responsive to students, staff, parents and ready to carry forward the concerns/issues brought to my attention. Thank you for your continuing support and trust. I wi!l represent you conscientiously.
