A Gold Bar Worth Thousands, Hidden Off the Laguna Beach Coast?

The Sport Chalet chain has launched its 4th annual SCUBA Treasure Hunt, worth big gift card bucks.

There's a gold bar worth at least $1,000 hidden in the Laguna Beach surf. And the first one who finds it gets to keep it.

But don't strap on your SCUBA gear just yet. The booty -- actually, T-bar weights painted gold -- won't be there until July 8, when the Sports Chalet chain plants all six gold bars, ranging in value (in the form of Sport Chalet gift cards) from $1,000 to $5,000, at various locations in Northern and Southern California, as well as one in Arizona.

The Sport Chalet website will be posting clues as to the whereabouts of the treasures on Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 18. The first set of clues  are up now -- and we know Bar #4 will be off Laguna Beach judging by this clue:

"Located in a city that was founded in 1887 but not incorporated until 1927."

Yep, that's us! Only fitting for a city that's a major SCUBA diver's draw.
