High School Football: We're Good With Numbers!

Here's a look back, by the numbers, at this weekend's prep football games for teams covered by Orange County Patch sites.

0 -- Losses this season for the Aliso Niguel, Corona del Mar, JSerra, Laguna Beach, Los Alamitos, Los Amigos, Saddleback Valley Christian, San Clemente, Santa Margarita and St. Michael’s Prep football teams.

2 -- Defeats suffered by Newport Harbor to open this season, which has never before happened in Jeff Brinkley’s 25 seasons as the Sailors' head coach.

3 -- Field goals by San Clemente’s Bret Miller (33, 34 and 27 yards) in 58-7 victory over La Costa Canyon.

3 -- Kickoff returns for touchdowns in Laguna Beach’s 73-40 victory over Ocean View. Robert Clemons of the Breakers had two (88 and 39 yards) and Ocean View’s Travis Sparks one (96).

4 -- Rushing touchdowns for junior Ryan Wolpin, tying a Santa Margarita school record, in the Eagles' 35-14 victory over Trabuco Hills.

4 -- Consecutive victories Newport Harbor (0-2) has posted over Corona del Mar in their annual “Battle of the Bay,” but Sea Kings (3-0) will be favored to break that string Friday night at Orange Coast College.

5 -- Turnovers committed by La Costa Canyon, San Diego's No. 9-ranked tram, in 58-7 loss to San Clemente. Two were fumbles by special teams.

7 -- Rushing yardage gained in one carry by Conner Ascher, who led Sage Hill in rushing with those seven yards in 36-0 loss to Mojave.

7 -- Victories by Edison all-time over Dana Hills, including two last season. The Dolphins have never defeated the Chargers, losing Friday, 34-13, after trailing by only six in the third quarter.

7 -- Touchdowns accounted for by Capistrano Valley Christian freshman quarterback Riley Babick, who passed for three and ran for four in the Eagles' 72-22 victory over St. Joseph Academy of San Marcos.

8 -- Plays of longest touchdown drive of game for Mission Viejo, which also scored on three one-play drives, a two-play drive and a three-play drive in a 47-21 victory over La Quinta.

9 -- Receptions by El Toro’s Cody White (167 yards) in .

15 -- Points scored in fourth quarter by Corona del Mar as it rallied for a 22-21 victory over Western.

17 -- Sacks Santa Margarita's defense has accumulated in three games.

21 -- First-half points scored by Los Alamitos in 21-8 victory over West Adams. Griffins had scored 70 and 56 points in their two previous wins over Norwalk and Mayfair.

29 -- Average yards for each of DJ Wilson’s six pass receptions for Mission Viejo in Diablos' 47-21 victory over La Quinta.

31 -- Points scored in second quarter by San Clemente in its 58-7 victory over La Costa Canyon.

34 -- Points scored by Mission Viejo in its first 11 offensive plays of the game against La Quinta.

40 -- Distance in yards of fumble return for a touchdown by defensive end Matt Mollnar in Aliso Niguel’s 34-7 victory over University.

45 -- Length in yards of Zach Shotttenfeld’s second field goal (his first was 30) in Tesoro’s 27-3 victory over Chino Hills.

45 -- Points scored in a row by JSerra in the first half of Lions' 51-13 victory over Los Angeles Wilson.

58 --  Average yards per carry for Robert Clemons, who rushed for 174 yards in Laguna Beach’s 73-40 victory over Ocean View.

65 -- Yards of interception return for a touchdown by Robert Bonilla in Los Amigos’ 35-13 victory over Loara.

68 -- Percentage of completed passes by San Clemente’s Travis Wilson (15 of 22) in 58-7 victory over La Costa Canyon.

71 -- Passing yards by Chino Hills quarterback Andrew Chavez in a 27-3 loss to Tesoro. In previous two games combined, he had thrown for 450 yards.

77 -- Yards Chris Cavillo ran for a touchdown in Fountain Valley’s 28-10 victory over Corona, before he had to leave the game because of a hip-flexor.

96 -- Total yards of Mission Viejo junior Marcus Collins’ two second-half touchdown runs against La Quinta.

104 -- Total points allowed by Anaheim Canyon in consecutive losses to Sea View League favorites Laguna Hills (42-7) and El Toro (62-3).

128 -- Combined points scored by Laguna Beach in its first two games, a 55-7 victory over Webb and a 73-40 win over Ocean View.

185 -- Combined yardage of Garrett Wright’s two kickoff returns for touchdowns in San Juan Hills’ 37-30 loss to El Modena.

310 -- Passing yardage for junior Conner Manning in .

334 -- Rushing yardage by junior Drake Martinez in Laguna Beach’s 73-40 victory over Ocean View. He had 115 yards the previous week.

1,295 -- Miles traveled by Orcas Island’s football team, which arrived at St. Margaret’s from Eastsound, Wash., only to depart with a 44-0 whipping ... and maybe a couple of days at the beach.
