Laguna Beach High Boys' Water Polo Team Is Ready to Defend Title

A dynasty in the making? The Breakers have a shot at establishing one this season.

The Coastline Pilot's Mike Sciacca has this story about the Laguna Beach High boys' water polo team and their hopes for the coming season, one in which they'll try to defend their CIF Southern Section championship.

That won't be easy. Several talented seniors have graduated, and the team is moving up to the tough Division 2, from Division 3.

But fifth-year coach Ethan Damato seems to like his team's chances, and he does have six returning players from last year's title-winning squad. Sciacca quotes Damato:

"We lost a lot of guys who were a big part of our team for a long time," Damato said. "Some of them [were] four-year varsity starters. There are some big holes to fill, but I think we have a lot of guys here excited about creating their own identity in 2012. We are working hard and have a deep group of guys [who] we are really excited about it."

If the Breakers can win another championship, it would be the team's third in a row. Dynasty, anyone?
