LBHS at Scholastic Surf Series

Editor's note: The following information was submitted by Laguna Beach High School coaches Alisa Cairns and Scott Finn.

We had a couple of surfers really help LBHS surfers to shine yesterday at Oceanside Jetty, south side for the Scholastic Surf Series event. Jack Dickerson lead the way with a 4th place finish overall in the Bodyboard division, having advanced strongly through several heats of competition.

Meanwhile in the Girls Longboard Marlee Grosher was spectacular winning several of her heats along the way, but came up a bit skunked in the final and had to settle for 6th overall. The waves were pretty fun left and right peaks for the start and we had a nice sunny day, although the negative tide made things a lot more closed out and tougher by the days end.

We started the team competition up against the strongest team in the series, San Diegito High School and our kids put up a good fight despite the loss. In boys short board although not making it through, but surfing strong non the less was Tobie Grierson, Zach Levine, Cam Zuziak and Colton Bryant. Boys Longboard saw some nice rides put in by Liam Bryant and Erik Siegrist but they just came up shy of advancement.

In the Girls short board, Coco Putnam surfed strong and advanced, but wasn't feeling well and ended up going home prior to her next individual heat. Along with Marlee in Girls Longboard Cayla Henderson gave it her all on a borrowed board, unfortunately her own longboard flew out of the truck and was destroyed on her way to the event.
