LBHS Shows Great Surfing Effort Against Newport Harbor

The Laguna Beach High School Surf Team faced Newport Harbor Wednesday in their turf at 61st in Newport.

It was a pretty and cool morning with tricky somewhat closed out peaks in the 3ft range. Once again our girls were strong with Marlee Grosher leading the way with a commanding Longboard win and a 2nd in Shortboard. Meanwhile Coco Putnam took 3rd in shortboard and Cayla Henderson took 4th in Longboard. Several of our boys had strong heats with Cameron DePyffer pulling off 2nd place in both the Shortboard and Longboard ripping apart both the lefts and rights.

Other top finishers for Laguna in Shortboard were Willy Hogan who was just edged out for the win, and Michael Chapman also with an impressive heat,  taking 2nd place. Meanwhile his twin brother, Shane Chapman finished in 3rd. Nathan Kravitz also secured a 3rd place in shortboard while Jack Dickerson took a 3rd in Bodyboard. Once again there was good surfing done by Freshman Connor Brashier who took a 4th in Shortboard, while Ryan Meisberger took 4th in Longboard. 

Although we did not win this contest, we were happy with many of the performances and the lively and enthusiastic surfing effort put in by the whole team. Thank you once again to the parents, family and friends for driving up to Newport Beach and supporting the Laguna kids. The next event will be against San Clemente November 12. We will also be in the Scholastic Surf Series on Sunday November 3 in Ocean Beach, San Diego. Below are today’s results.
