Sports: Scholastic Surf Series Ocean Beach

Editor's note: The following information was submitted by Laguna Beach High School coaches Alisa Cairns and Scott Finn.

We had a great showing Sunday at the Scholastic Surf Series Ocean Beach event with Finalists in nearly every division.

There was some size, power and a lot of closeouts for our surfers to deal with, but everyone handle the conditions well. In the Girls Longboard Marlee Grosher had a number of well surfed heats and finished up in the Finals with a 3rd overall. Meanwhile Coco Putnum also surfed really well and strong to take 4th overall in the Girls Shortboard. Ryan Meisberger pitched in the Bodyboard for an injured Jack while also competing in Longboard and made it all the way to the Bodyboard Finals finishing up in 3rd overall.

Several of our boys shotboarders had very strong heats with Tobie Grierson and Cameron DePyffer leading the way. Those two were neck and neck competing together in the semi and rep, just barely missing out on the Boys Shortboard Final, finishing 7th & 8th. Cayla Henderson also did quite well in the Girls Longboard finishing 7th overall just missing out on the Final.

Others to just miss out but surfed well early on were Cam Zuziak, and Zach Levine in Boys Shortboard and Erik Siegrist in Lonboard.

Thank you once again to the parents, family and friends for driving all the way down to San Diego and supporting the Laguna kids. I know many of you took advantage of various things San Diego had to offer, including surfing, bike rides and a burger feast at Hodads. The next Scholastic event will be November 17 at Oceanside Harbor, while our next High School Team League event will be at Thalia November 12 against San Clemente.
