Wait Till Next Year: Brooks Street Surfing Classic Officially Called Off
A lack of good south swells this year doomed the contest's 50th anniversary.
The window on the waiting period for the 50th Annual Brooks Street Surfing Classic has been officially closed, according to contest organizer Brandy Faber.
With one small but unlikely caveat: "Unless of course a magical off-season south swell were to appear on the radar for a weekend ... it would be considered," Faber posted Wednesday on the Brooks Street Facebook page.
Though there were promising close calls during two periods in and , by the time both Saturday mornings rolled around, the swells, including one prompted by Hurricane Eugene, had faded.

Faber writes that the waiting period for the 50th Annual Brooks Street Surfing Classic will officially re-open the weekend of June 2-3, 2012.
