City Hopes New Smartphone App Will Help Out Locals and Tourists

The app, officially launching this Friday, will feature real-time trolley tracking and highlight assorted points of interest in the city.

A new Laguna Beach-centric app is coming Friday to a smartphone near you.

Launched in partnership with the city and the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau, the app, dubbed "Laguna Beach Travel Info," is geared toward tourists (yes, locals can use it too) and gives users tips on restaurants, shopping, events, weather, even tide tables. A couple of additional features of the app include GPS-enabled real-time info so you can know exactly when the city trolleys will arrive at each stop.

"For the first time ever, riders this summer will have the ability to stand at a trolley stop and see where the next trolley is in proximity to their location,” said Laguna Beach Mayor Jane Egly in a news release provided by the bureau.

There's also a feature called "Come to Life," which, unfortunately, has nothing to do with a zombie invasion, but instead will enable people to scan specially coded photos of the town's iconic Main Beach lifeguard tower inside the new Laguna Beach Visitors Guide and see them ... you guessed it ... "come to life" through video in order to learn more about each particular point of interest, such as a public art piece or perhaps the Eiler Larsen statues.

The free app will be available for both iPhone and Android platforms.
