OLIVER STONE'S LAGUNA BEACH FILM SAVAGES OPENS

WHY GO? Maybe you're in the background of some shots! You'll recognize many locations throughout Laguna Beach, to be sure. Perhaps not for the weak at heart as it's rated R for brutal, grisly violence. Story goes, the Mexican Baja drug cartel demands that a Laguna Beach pot-growing trio partners with them, bloody mayhem ensues. DUNK A COP!
WHERE/WHEN: Main Beach bricks. Saturday, July 7, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
WHY GO? What to do about that parking ticket you got just five minutes after the meter expired? How about commiting exact, swift revenge? The Laguna Beach Police Employees Association is holding its second annual dunk-a-cop fundraiser, involving a dunk tank, baseballs, and your best Jared Weaver impersonation. All proceeds go to the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club, which last year got $500 from the event. They hope to reach $1,000 Saturday.
PRICE: Not sure—maybe five bucks for three balls?—but it can't be expensive, and it's for the kids! 

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF SKIMBOARDING
WHERE/WHEN: , all day Saturday and Sunday.
WHY GO? About 120 competitors are expected for the two-day (they're based in Laguna Beach, y'know) World Championship of Skimboarding, which if you don't know, is kinda like surfing, but kinda not. Many professionals will be on hand, including last year's men's division winner Sam Stinnett, and there are many age divisions for amateurs in various categories. Sign-in registration starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. At the conclusion of the contest on Sunday, an awards ceremony will start at around 5 p.m. For more info, click here.

FESTIVAL OF ARTS COOKING SERIES OPENER
WHERE/WHEN: grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd., 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, July 8. 
WHY GO? Live and in-person, Executive Chef Robert Opelle of will offer tips, tricks and tools of the trade for making amazing dishes. Upcoming demos will feature chefs from other Laguna Beach restaurants, including , , , , and more. For more information, click here or call 949-497-6582.

CLARENCE HINKLE AND THE GROUP OF EIGHT AT LAGUNA ART MUSEUM
WHERE/WHEN: , 307 Cliff Dr. Through October 7. Museum hours are: Mon.-Tues. & Fri.-Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thurs., 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Wednesday.
WHY GO? Hinkle was an early 20th-century artist who broke new ground simply because he wasn't a plein air painter like seemingly everyone else of the time. Instead, he and his oil-on-canvas comrades—who would become known as the Group of Eight—composed often abstract works of figures, still-lifes and scenes of everyday normalcy that captured the era brilliantly. UKULADY SHOW
WHERE/WHEN? at 363 Glenneyre. Tuesday, July 10, 6:30 p.m.
WHY GO? The Ukulady kicks out the jams at the Laguna Beach Library for this family-friendly event, a musical songfest featuring tunes of "clams, corndogs and friendship" all done up via ukelele, sponsoreed by the Friends of the Laguna Beach Library. CRYSTAL COVE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
WHERE/WHEN:  Meet at the bluff-top deck in the Historic District near Cottage #34. 3-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
WHY GO? National Geographic Travel magazine's award-winning photographer J. Christopher Launi will present a digital photography workshop at gorgeous Crystal Cove. Learn to take your camera "off automatic" and explore "the use of manual features." Classroom instruction with field instruction around the beach, bluff and cottage landscapes.
