Get Out: What To Do This Weekend In Laguna Beach

Come together for Beatles Day, check out some trashy fashions, hear how the upcoming election could change the planet, meet some Criminal Minds, enjoy crooning among the plants, and dance 'The Popcorn' to great soul music.

ANNUAL BEATLES DAY AT SAWDUST
WHERE/WHEN: Sawdust Festival grounds, 935 Laguna Canyon Road. Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
WHY GO? Kids can create a yellow submarine with pastels, make tie-dye shoelaces, add beads to a groovy headband, paint a rock, and create a peace sign collage. There will be the sounds of the Beatles from musical groups on three different stages. PRICE: All activities are complimentary with admission except for shoelaces, which cost $2. Prices of food and beverages vary. Admission: $7.75 adult (one-day), $6.25 (senior one-day, 65+), $3.25 (children 6-12), free (children 5 & under). $15 season pass, $20 annual pass.

FOURTH ANNUAL "RE-USE" FESTIVAL RUNWAY FASHION SHOW
WHERE/WHEN: Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. Saturday, Aug. 18. 1-4 p.m.
WHY GO? Watch models work the runway wearing fabulous fashions created by exceptional designers who used 80% reclaimed materials. In the past, works of wearable art were made from cellophane, old "Pageant of the Masters" programs, plastic forks, eucalyptus bark, and berries. DISCUSSION: THE NOVEMBER ELECTION COULD AFFECT THE PLANET
WHEN/WHERE: Laguna Beach Democratic Club/Obama 2012 Campaign Headquarters, 1401 S. Coast Hwy. Saturday, Aug. 18, 7 p.m.
WHY GO? Dr. Scot C.R. Rafkin has provided environmental predictions for NASA since 2003. Dr. Rafkin is the assistant director of the Department of Space Studies at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and is a world-recognized scientist in the field of planetary atmospheres. During a 30-minute presentation, he will discuss how the November election might affect not only Americans, but all inhabitants of the planet. For more information, click here or phone 949-497-7027.

CRIMINAL MINDS CAST MEET-AND-GREET AT FESTIVAL OF ARTS
WHERE/WHEN: Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. Sunday, Aug. 19, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
WHY GO? Get an autograph or picture taken with stars Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, Shemar Moore, A. J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness. The FOA will try to accomodate as many fans as possible. Guest appearances subject to availability the day of the event. Be sure to bring your own camera, pen and paper. STONE SOUL BAND PERFORMS IN BLUEBIRD PARK
WHERE/WHEN: Bluebird Park, where Cress Street meets Bluebird Canyon. Sunday, Aug. 19, 5-7 p.m. (No set-ups earlier than 3 p.m.!)
WHY GO?  Feel the funk y'all and dance to delicious tunes from Al Green, Edwin Starr and the O'Jays. R & B, soul and oldies but goodies...you name it, Stone Soul's got it. Dancing up front next to the band, dining on low tables and chairs in the center, playing with kids at the back on the playground equipment. GARDEN CABARET WITH SAIF EDDIN
WHERE/WHEN: Laguna Nursery, 1370 S. Coast Hwy. Sunday, Aug. 19, 6-9 p.m.
