Get Out: What To Do This Weekend in Laguna Beach

Why go: Laguna Beach Books hosts author Anita Hughes, who'll discuss her debut novel, Monarch Beach, "about one woman’s journey back to happiness after an affair splinters her perfect marriage and life—what it means to be loved, betrayed, and to love again."

SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK: SONGS AND SPEECHES
When/Where: Friday, June 22, 6:30 p.m. till sunset in the amphitheater.
Why go: Jason Feddy, Laguna Beach's guitarist-about-town, performs pieces from his Bard-inspired Shakespeare's Fool production, accompanied by John Gardiner and guests as part of the city's Sunset Serenade series.
Price: Free.

PUSS IN BOOTS
When/Where: Saturday, June 23, 7 p.m. , 31106 S. Coast Hwy., 949-499-2271.
Why go: The Aliso Creek Inn is back hosting its annual free summer movie nights, with grass seating (bring your own blankets and chairs), popcorn and candy for the kids, and a bar and grill for the parents. (B&G opens at 7 p.m.; movie starts at 8 p.m. or whenever it gets dark enough.) Tonight's flick is the animated Puss In Boots, a Shrek spinoff that we haven't seen, but a whole lot of other people did when it cleaned up at the box office last fall. Enjoy, but remember, no outside food or drinks allowed.

BIRDING HIKE
When/Where: Sunday, June 24, 8-11 a.m. at the

Why go: Recreate your favorite scenes from last year's Steve Martin/Jack Black comedy The Big Year—or not, since only seven people saw it. But you can still get up early and spot local native and summer resident birds, with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists on this moderate 2-mile hike over uneven terrain through one of the most diverse plant communities in the United States. Ages 12 and up. Hiking or walking shoes required, and bring your binoculars! Sign up and get more info here.
