WHY GO? Cuando el clima es calido (When the weather is hot), Poncho is cool, cool, cool! Sip a margarita, y baile con su amorcito (dance with your sweetheart), and listen to conga player Poncho play latin favorites with his big band. PHIL SAVENICK'S FILM PAINTING WITH GHOSTS
WHERE/WHEN: Festival of Arts grounds, Art Forum Theater, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. Saturday, July 14, 1-3 p.m.
WHY GO? Savenick has made a film which takes the viewer to the sites where master artists created their most famous works. KRISTIN FRITZ ARTIST RECEPTION

WHY GO? Have a glass of wine while taking in the artwork of Kristin Fritz. Her earthtone collages contain bold geometric shapes made from brown grocery bags, walnut ink and natural pigments. MUSIC MATTERS CONCERT WITH PATO BANTON
WHERE/WHEN? The Cliff Restaurant event terrace, 577 S. Coast Hwy. Sunday, July 15, 4-8 p.m.
WHY GO? Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme! Grammy-nominated reggae artist Pato Banton has worked with members of the English Beat, Steel Pulse and UB40. His Music Matters performance on Sunday will raise money for Blue Water Green Earth, a Laguna Beach not-for-profit group striving for civic and environmental change through music and the arts. 29TH MUSIC IN THE PARK SERIES WITH CUBENSIS

WHY GO? Get your hippie on with Grateful Dead tribute band Cubensis, who kick off the city's ever-popular seven-week concert series. Put on those tie-dye rags, stay away from the brown acid, and dance along to the Dead's greatest hits. You might want to keep it simple and plan on walking to the event.
