Yes, "Savages" Will Be Playing In Laguna Beach This Friday

The Oliver Stone film, set in Laguna Beach and shot in town last September, opens Friday at Laguna South Coast Cinemas.

If you want to see Savages when it opens this Friday, you won't have to leave town and drive to some 28-screen ginormaplex to do it.

The movie, based on Don Winslow's crime novel about a pair of Laguna Beach pot dealers, their shared girlfriend, and the Mexican cartel that comes gunning for them, was partially shot in Dana Point and Laguna Beach last September. Film crews took over Main Beach for a week, and more scenes were shot at other spots around the city.

Savages will be opening nationwide Friday, and one of those screens will fittingly be at , Laguna Beach's only movie theater.

"There's been lots of interested expressed for it," theater manager Bob Lively tells Laguna Beach Patch. "Especially since it was filmed in Laguna Beach. People want to see how the city looks on screen. It will do well in Laguna."

During the shoot, the production company paid the theater an undisclosed sum to change the lettering on its marquee to read MONSTER FEST THIS WEEKEND, which is what you'll see during the film's beach scenes, assuming they weren't left in the editing bay.
