Photos: Laguna Concert Band Entertains at Festival of Arts

More than 200 listeners got to hear the Laguna Concert Band and special guest artists.

The Laguna Concert Band performed a stirring rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" and other musical gems at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts Wednesday. Some of the 200 listeners sipped wine or ate sandwiches as they enjoyed pieces performed by the band and several other guest artists.

"Wow, that was so stirring," said Kollenda, after hearing the band perform "The Star Spangled Banner" under the direction of Pete Fournier. Fournier, Ed Peterson and Dr. Bill Nicholls took turns conducting the band during the evening.

Guest artists included vocalists Ginger and Randy Hatfield, Lisa Morrice and Linda Hughes. Guest flutist Cynthia Ellis also performed with the band. A unique version of "Cinderella" was performed by band member and storyteller Nancy Rodewald.

The LCB celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009. Founded by tenor saxophonist Brian Cameron, it started with only eight volunteer musicians. Now the band has more than 60 volunteer members. There are subgroups in the band, including two swing bands, a flute ensemble, a Dixieland band and a sax ensemble.

The Laguna Concert Band is a non-profit organization and is made possible by donations and grants.
