Video: How the Friendship Shelter Helped One Woman Get Her Life Back

Tina Orr's struggle to find some stability in her life is depicted in a 10-minute documentary you can watch right here.

The Other Side: The Life Story of Tina Orr is a compelling mini-documentary by filmmakers Samantha Andre and Drew Heskett. At just 10 minutes, it's totally worth the time to get to know the doc's subject, Orr, a woman who was a child actress and landed roles on daytime television in the 1970s before a bad marriage to an abusive husband started her on a path towards a string of hardships—homelessness, the loss of her children, and health issues among them.

That's where Laguna Beach's Friendship Shelter comes in. Orr lived for eight months at the Shelter's Alternative Sleeping Location in Laguna Canyon, and the film depicts her struggle with obtaining permanent housing and some much-needed stability in her life.

Though The Other Side ends on an uncertain note, with Orr desperately searching for an apartment that will accept her housing voucher before it expires, the Friendship Shelter posted a happy epilogue on their Facebook page today:

Tina has since found an apartment and has been living on her own for over 6 months. Tina comes by from time to time to drop off donations of helpful items like frozen chicken and unused toiletries. It's always nice to hear her sweet voice around the halls.
