Cyber Monday, Artist Open Studios, Academic Pentathlon

Events taking place today and this week in Laguna Beach.


1. Today is Cyber Monday and Patch wishes you luck with your online shopping. By some estimates, we’ll collectively spend $1.8 billion today. Remember to protect your security with strong passwords and be careful what you click on. The Center for Internet Security offers more security tips.

2. Today from 5:3o to 7 p.m., the city's Emergency Disaster Preparedness Committee will meet at the Susi Q Community Center, 380 Third St. in Laguna Beach.

3. Today at 6 p.m., the Montage Laguna Beach hotel will hold its Christmas tree lighting ceremony featuring carolers, live music and a community open house. The Montage is located at 30801 S. Coast Highway.

4. Is your child an academic star? Friday is the deadline for 7th and 8th grade school teams to sign up for the county-wide Academic Pentathlon. The program is sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education

5. Artist Open Studios will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can catch a free shuttle service from the Act V parking lot, located at 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, and take advantage of free parking. Over 30 artists will be opening their studios, offering hands-hands on experiences and insights into their creative process. This is opportunity to see artists working in a variety of media from glass blowing to bronze welding. This event is funded by the lodging establishments and city of Laguna Beach.
