Holiday Toy Drive, Winter's Coming, OC Food Bank Needs Help
Events taking place today and this week in Laguna Beach.
1. The Laguna Beach Fire Department is still collecting toys for needy families through December 24. Each city fire station, plus the Laguna Beach Police Department lobby, are serving as drop-off sites for new, unwrapped toys or sports equipment. Get locations and more information in our story here.
2. On Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Gingerbread House Construction Site will be held at the Laguna Beach Library. Delectable homes, suitable for very small elves, will be built from graham crackers. A messy good time filled with candy doodads, this child and parent event is free. Materials are graciously provided by the Friends of the Laguna Beach Library. Please RSVP are needed as to plan manufacturing supplies by calling 949-497-1733. Laguna Beach Library is located at 363 Glenneyre St.
3. This year’s slurry seal project will begin on El Toro Road this week, tentatively scheduled to begin Friday, December 20, and to be completed in one week.
4. The week before Christmas is a great time to donate food to needy local families. Consider a donation of food of funds to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. The organization distributes more than 18 million pounds of food annually through hundreds of community partners.
5. Saturday is the first day of winter. We don’t always acknowledge this season in Southern California, but after a period of unusually cold weather and pleas to conserve natural gas, it sure feels like winter. Here’s a link to the official winter forecast.
