Thanksgiving Closures, Working Off the Turkey, CHP Beefing Up Holiday Patrols

Events taking place this week in Laguna Beach.

1. Don't forget! Laguna Beach City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

2. At noon on Thanksgiving the Neighborhood Congregational Church will be hosting a community Thanksgiving meal. If you are interested in volunteering, or donating a cooked turkey, ham, or any of the fixings organizers suggest arriving at 11 a.m. The church is located at 340 St. Ann's Drive in Laguna Beach.

3. For those who would rather burn calories than money, skip Black Friday and head to Irvine Regional Park. OC Parks’ “Orange Friday” event runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and includes mountain biking, horse riding and hiking. When it gets dark, you can ride the Irvine Park Railroad’s Christmas Train.

4. If you’re driving over the holiday, remember to buckle up and don’t drink alcohol. The California Highway Patrol will engage in a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Sunday. Last year, there were 44 people killed in collisions during the Thanksgiving holiday in California.

5. Black Friday is traditionally the day after Thanksgiving, but many retailers are starting early, before the turkey is even put away. Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, is kicking off its Black Friday sales at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
