Meet the Authors of 101 Things to Love About Laguna Beach

Editor's note: The following story was submitted by Laguna Beach Books.

On Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. Laguna Beach Books is pleased to host a special event with Laguna locals Sally Eastwood and Helen Polins-Jones, authors of 101 Things to Love About Laguna Beach. There is no charge for this event.

In 101 Things to Love About Laguna Beach, British transplants Sally Eastwood and Helen Polins-Jones have collaborated to create an illustrated love letter to their adopted hometown. This whimsical guidebook to one of America’s most iconic beach communities features Eastwood’s prose and over fifty of Polins-Jones’ watercolor landscapes and motifs.

Designed by local graphic designer Allison Tosti, 101 Things to Love About Laguna Beach is bound in high-quality ocean blue leatherette, with a metallic foil-embossed cover and ribbon bookmark. Organized into thematic sections that each begin with one of Polins-Jones’ landscapes, the book enumerates Laguna Beach’s many charms, from its beaches, canyons, and wildlife to its heritage as an artists’ colony and community spirit.

British native Sally Eastwood arrived in Laguna Beach in 2000, after eight years of living on the east coast in Maryland and Florida, and immediately knew she was home. During her time in the corporate world, Sally has written scripts, speeches, presentations and more, and now writes from home with a view of the ocean. Her favorite of the 101 things listed in this book is Laguna's goats, the four-legged fire fighters who spend all day eating on the job.

British-born watercolor artist Helen Polins-Jones lives and works in Laguna Beach. Using pencil and watercolor, she creates illustrations, motifs and patterns that can be found on a variety of handmade products in local gift stores. Helen's favorite item in the book is the sea birds, which she loves to watch in action while walking along the beach.

101 Things to Love About Laguna Beach is, in the words of the authors, “both for Laguna locals and all the visitors who come for a day, a week, or longer, who have also fallen in love with this unique town.”
