A San Juan Capistrano resident for nearly 10 years, Penny Arévalo has more than 20 years of journalism experience. While she got her start in community news reporting for Scripps newspapers, she has spent the last 17 years making business and legal news her niche. Freelancing gigs included the Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News,Babytalk magazine, California Lawyer magazine and Corporate Legal Times. She has received a Ventura County Press award and a Top O' The Times award.
Penny is thrilled to be returning to her roots, covering education for Patch. She finds talking to parents passionate about the education of their children invigorating. She herself has three teens, grows organic heirloom tomatoes, is a gym rat when she's not writing and is a complete snob when it comes to chocolate and pianos.
