After two years of delays brought on by poor wave conditions, Laguna Beach's famed Brooks Street Surf Classic was finally held again this past weekend -- the 50th edition.
Was it worth the wait? Undoubtedly, according to contest organizer Brandy Faber.
"It was amazing," Faber tells Patch. "We had a great south swell, and it was just a great day overall."

Brooks Street began in 1955 and is considered to be the oldest continuing surf contest in the world. But unlike other competitions such as the U.S. Open of Surfing, Brooks Street is only held under peak swell conditions, which is why the locals-only contest hadn't taken place since 2010.
There are also no set dates, just a four-month-long window when Faber tries to predict the best conditions for staging the contest, which gives competitors an advance notice of just a few days. During 2011 and 2012, there were several windows when it looked like the contest might be staged, but prime conditions petered out by the time Saturday morning rolled around.

This didn't happen the morning of June 8.
"Everyone was happy with the turnout and the surf conditions," Faber says.
