What Would St. Patrick Do? Green-Friendly Ways to Celebrate Today

Here are seven lucky ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day without the green bagels, green beer or the green face that comes with a hangover.

There’s a green side to environmentally-conscious Laguna Beach that even St. Patrick—shamrocks and all—would celebrate.

The Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau created a website that details Laguna’s green efforts. In keeping with St. Pat’s evangelist spirit, Laguna Beach offers ways to celebrate the wearing of the green by living the green.

What would St. Patrick do? Here are seven ways to go green:

1. Sleep green. Spend an evening at a green hotel. Laguna has many options including , a member of the Green Hotel Association of America. The chef adheres to the 100 mile rule to prepare menu items with ingredients that are grown, caught or harvested within 100 miles of Laguna Beach. The bed and breakfast uses eco-friendly cleaning products and providing linen made from 100% sustainable bamboo. The inn won an Environmental Achievement Award from the City of Laguna Beach.

2. Rent or ride green. Try getting around the town in an eco-friendly way on mopeds from a company that envisions “citizens of beach city communities leave their cars behind and ride electric bikes, mopeds, scooters or Neighborhood Electric Vehicles.”  Or, why not ride a basic bicycle from ?

3. Eat green. Many restaurants in town are eco-concious. Biodegradable to-go containers are the norm at , which also recycles onsite. also uses recyclable products for their packaging and “to go” containers.

4. Walk green. Besides walking in town, take a hike at . Walking is about as green as it gets when it comes to transportation.
